The Fangirl and the Loremaster

Chapter 1

   Michael is just your average 19 year old student. He woke up and got ready for school like everyone else, he did his work like everyone else and just went on with life as everyone else did. However when he got to school the one Monday morning, he got a surprise he was never expecting.



"Ugh Monday..." Michael groaned not eager to go into class today. He just wanted to go home and his day hadn't even begun. As he walked lazily to his class, he was stopped in his tracks by a girl around his age.

"Didn't think you'd be seeing me here, huh Michael?" The girl said with a smile on her face

"Jessica? What in blazes are you doing here?" Michael asked

"Can't a girl give her friend a surprise visit? I mean, I did come all this way to see you after all!"

"And you decided to visit me as I was to head off to class? How did you even find me anyway?" Michael asked feeling slightly creeped out.

"I have my ways." Jessica said with a smirk.

"Well, I guess I have to babysit you for the next few hours." Michael laughed

The two walked into Michael's class, only to be stopped by Michael's professor who asked about Jessica.

"Michael, who is this guest you brought into class?"

Scratching his head, thinking of a quick response, Michael answered "This is Jessica, a friend from out of town. She's thinking of transferring here so I decided to give her the run of the place."

"I am?" Jessica said puzzled.

"Roll with it." Michael uttered underneath his breath

The professor stood for a moment in silence before saying "Pleased to meet you Jessica, we hope our college will be to your liking."

A few hours later

Michael and Jessica drove back to Michael's house where his parents had left him a note that said "Gone grocery shopping, be back in a few hours."

"I suppose we got the house to ourselves." Michael said turning on his computer "Wanna watch the new Skyrim Tale?"

Both Jessica and Michael were avid fans of VenturianTale, a gaming channel ran by 4 siblings. Among the various games VenturianTale played, was Skyrim, a favorite for both 19 year olds. Michael had a habit for creating backstory for the main character, Vahl, earning him the title of "Loremaster". Jessica had a less interesting title, but one that fit her well "The Fangirl" because she was in deep with so many fanbases.

For the next 20 minutes Michael and Jessica watched Venturian fumble around in Skyrim, and the two were laughing all the while. And when the episode had ended, the pair wondered what to do next.

"So, what is the real reason you made your way out here?" Michael asked as he closed his internet browser.

"Oh um about that." Jessica flustered, trying to find the right words to say

"Come on Jess, you can tell me. It's just us after all." Michael said

It's just us after all. The words pierced Jessica's mind like a barrage of arrows

"Uhhhh. Look, I'll tell you in the morning, kinda tired with jet-lag and all." Jessica quickly blurted out

"Oh well ok, take my bed. I got the couch." Michael offered

"That's real nice of you, but I'm fine." Jessica said

"It's cool, I insist." And with that, Jessica got ready for bed and lied down. Michael was in the living room listening to some music and about to go to bed himself when he found his iPod running out of battery. He went back to his room to get his charger, but as he entered he heard sniffling coming from his bed.

"Jessica? Crying?" Michael thought to himself. He walked over to sit at the bedside. Michael tapped Jessica's shoulder. Jessica was slightly alarmed and embarrassed at this, but Michael didn't seem to care.

"Hey now." Michael whispered in a gentle tone. "What's wrong?"

"Oh nothing. It's stupid." Jessica said wiping the tears from her eyes

"Move over." Michael commanded as Jessica did just that. To her surprise he had gotten into bed with her.

"What are yo-?" Jessica started, but Michael stopped her mid-sentence

Michael held Jessica tightly, and kissed her on the forehead.

"You know?" Jessica asked

"I knew something was a bit off. No girl would go out of their way to see a guy like me without good reason." Michael joked "So, how long?"

Jessica was no longer nervous, she felt comfort knowing that Michael had loved her back, but at the same time she was puzzled. Michael had mentioned another girl numerous times, how could he overcome such feelings easily?

"But what about that girl you kept mentioning? What about her?" Jessica asked. She was almost certain Michael was doing this to make her feel better.

This time Michael answered in an hushed voice

"Yes, but I know you better. I see it now, but never mind that. You're here and I'm here, that's all that matters now."

Jessica rubbed her hand through Michael's unkempt hair.

"I love you." She whispered as she kissed Michael all the while holding him tightly

Michael kissed Jessica back and said "And I'll love you, the best I can."
